I’ve been looking into options for reading #FridayFlash on mobile devices. Let me say right up front that there may never be an app that automatically loads all the entries into your mobile device each week. Aside from the time required and the tech hurdles involved, part of the philosophy of #FridayFlash is to help authors bring more traffic to their individual web sites. The weekly Report should be a gateway, not a terminal. On the other hand, maybe we can facilitate making the content available on more devices and thereby increase readership.

I’m at a bit of a disadvantage on this. I have e-reader apps on a laptop and an iPod Touch, but I don’t own a dedicated e-reader. And buying one just isn’t in the budget right now. If we have some e-reader owners that are willing to be guinea pigs, I’ll help all I can.

Readability [http://www.readability.com/] and Calibre [http://calibre-ebook.com/] were both mentioned in the Twitter chatter. We can discuss those below or in a new thread. I have a little experience with each of them. Also, I’m wondering whether anyone would be interested in getting an email each time an entry goes in the Collector. Would that be helpful at all?

There is a better chance that we might be able to provide a version of the weekly #FridayFlash Report that is optimized for reading on mobile devices. You’d still have to follow the links to read the stories. Would that be useful to you?

Most blogs these days have mobile options — both Blogger & WordPress have it as a selection. Unless it’s specifically disabled, you can add “?m=1″ (without the quotes) to any Blogger URL to get a mobile-friendly display. There’s probably something similar for WP.
