We want your membership here on the FFDO site to be valuable and enjoyable. For example, the next step in improving the Collector form will be to automatically enter your name and TwitterID into the form based on information in your member profile. (You have to be logged in for that to work.) Non-members (and members who are not logged in) can still enter all the info manually. FFDO membership will never be required to participate in #FridayFlash.
To facilitate these enhancements, we need everyone to enter profile information in the same way. Since we’ve learned a few things along the way about what works best for this site, I’ve made some changes to the profile instructions. For now, we are only looking at these three pieces: your name, your site address, and your TwitterID.
- Your name: Please enter your first and last name.
- Your blog or website: Please enter a full URL such as http://fridayflashdotorg.blogspot.com/
- Your Twitter: Please enter your TwitterID (without the @) or a full URL such as https://twitter.com/#!/FridayFlash
- Leave this blank if you are not on Twitter.
Regarding the Twitter info, all we really need for the Collector is your TwitterID (without the @). Putting the full Twitter URL creates a link in your profile, which we think is a nice thing to do. You can put it either way in your profile and the Collector form will still enter just your TwitterID. (I hope that’s not too confusing.) If you are not on Twitter, please leave that field blank in your profile and we will automatically put n/a in the Collector form. Here’s a look at what is currently in YOUR profile:

To edit your member profile you must be logged in here on the FFDO site. Then from the black toolbar at the very top of the page select My Account -> Profile -> Edit. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of that page when you finish. (This would be a good time to update other profile information too!)
Addendum 10 Mar 2012: The next phase in improving the Collector is to read the RSS feed from your website and pull the Title and Address of your most recent post (on the assumption that that will be your #FridayFlash). It should work for most of you most of the time. This information will now also automatically be entered into the Collector form.
FFDO members may log in to see if we are reading your RSS feed correctly.
